Today, we are facing unprecedented threats to free and fair elections from an administration determined to use every means possible to ensure they remain in power. We have ten weeks or less to respond to those threats. This is an urgent call to action by Indivisible East Lyme, Guardians of Democracy Indivisible, and Indivisible Southeast CT to join forces with like-minded groups across Southeastern Connecticut to ensure a massive, indisputable, pro-democracy turnout on election day. We will kick-off this effort on September 16 at 6:30 PM at All Souls Church, 19 Jay Street, New London, CT.
We are linking with work being organized by national and state organizations so we can maximize the impact of our efforts. Collectively, we have the power to face down these threats to our democracy. We do this by organizing across our community to promote voting and protect free and fair elections – starting immediately and going through January when newly elected leaders are sworn in. Working together, we can ensure an early voter turnout that is so massive and so decisive that it cannot be claimed to be the result of election fraud. And if the federal government tries to shut down the process in any way, we will be prepared to respond with a mass, country-wide mobilization to stop them.
What will this entail: The proposed election protection plan includes the following three areas of focus. This is focused on southeastern Connecticut but also includes ways to support such efforts in battleground states.
- Get out the vote – i.e.
- Voter registration
- Get out the early vote
- Support pro-democracy candidates and legislation
- Encourage vote for pro-democracy candidates
- Push for pro-democracy legislation and push back on harmful legislation
- Prepare for mass mobilization in response to existing or emerging threats
- Raise broader awareness of the issues and potential threats
- Build up networks and methods for rapid communication
- Track and respond to threats as they arise – coordinate with local, state and national initiatives
- Be prepared to quickly mobilize a large number of people to protest efforts to suppress the voice of the people
